LOCATION
Ostiglia is a small market town in the Mantova province in the Italian region of Lombardy, located about 160 km southeast of Milan and about 30 km southeast of Mantova. It has a population of 6601 inhabitants. 
The province of Mantova stretches from the hills from the lower Lake Garda area to the lands around the part of the River Po wedged in between the two provinces of Verona and Emilia. it is a zone rich in water, with the Mincio river travelling right across it and the Oglio and Po Rivers also running through. It is a predominantly flatland area that favours rice cultivation and fruit orchards. 
On the left bank of the Po River, Ostiglia marks the beginning of Lombardy’s second largest rice growing area (Vialone Nano) and risotto is widely served in local Trattorie (restaurants) in the area. The gastronomy is typical of the Po valley, with Venetian and Emilian influences. There are many traditional dishes such as risotto and tortelli, and zucca (pumpkin) is widely used which adds a sweet distinct note to dishes. Vineyards provide for the production of DOC Colli Mantovani Del Garda wines and Lambrusco Mantovano.

Several cycling routes also pass through Ostiglia to enjoy the area while pedalling. A popular route is the one that retraces the former Treviso-Ostiglia military railway built in the 1930s and converted into a cycle path, a true greenway through meadows and woods, fields and watercourses. Pedalling, you arrive as far as Vicenza. Ostiglia is also an ideal base for visiting the surrounding cities of art such as Verona and Mantova.
