An annual survey reveals the 5 cities offering the best quality of life in Italy, the great news is that they are all northern regions, two of which, (Trento and Verona) belong to Lake Garda.
The top 20 cities in the 2020 quality of life ranking are  occupied by:
Bologna, Bolzano, Trento, Verona, Trieste, Udine, Aosta, Parma, Cagliari, Pordenone, Siena, Milan, Ascoli Piceno, Forlì-Cesena, Modena, Ancona, Reggio Emilia, Pesaro and Urbino, Genoa and Cuneo.

The COVID-19 pandemic has not only taken the lives of many Italians, but has affected life in the country in so many ways, having an economic and social impact on Italy as consequences of the virus. The coronavirus has also had an impact on the ranking of the Italian cities where people live best 2020. The annual survey, which looks at quality of life in Italy is carried out by the Italian newspaper, Il Sole 24 Ore. At the beginning of 2020, Milan topped the list as the Italian with the best quality of life, however to end 2020 and begin 2021, Bologna has taken first place as one of the best cities to live in Italy. Let's have a look how COVID-19 has affected quality of life in Italian cities.
The survey that led to the ranking of the best Italian cities to live in 2020 took into account 25 parameters and measured the impact of the COVID-19 health emergency in Italy's cities, as well as the GDP per capita compared to 2019.
A surprising result was achieved by the city of Bologna, which moved up 13 positions to take first place in the ranking of the best Italian cities to live in 2020. The city scored best in the categories of wealth and consumption, environment and services, business and work and finally, culture and leisure. Milan, which was in first place in the last two editions of the quality of life ranking in Italy, dropped down the list by 11 positions this year. The Lombard capital was particularly affected by the fall in GDP and the average living space available.
However, Il Sole 24 Ore's classification of the best Italian cities to live in also tells us something else. A general conclusion allows us to say that in the year of COVID-19 in Italy, the big cities lost ground, especially tourist cities such as Venice (33rd), Rome (32nd), Florence (27th) and Naples (92nd).
The top 20 cities in the 2020 quality of life ranking are occupied by: Bologna, Bolzano, Trento, Verona, Trieste, Udine, Aosta, Parma, Cagliari, Pordenone, Siena, Milan, Ascoli Piceno, Forlì-Cesena, Modena, Ancona, Reggio Emilia, Pesaro and Urbino, Genoa and Cuneo.
The gap between cities in the north and south of the Italy remains the same. In fact, according to Il Sole 24 Ore's ranking of Italian cities where life is best, "with the exception of Cagliari, in 9th place, the next best southern province is Campobasso in 54th place, followed by Sassari and Nuoro in 62nd and 63rd place".
