Gardone Riviera on the western shore of Lake Garda has once again been awarded the “Blue Flag” award for its clean lake waters..
Beaches along the Mediterranean Sea are among the most beautiful in the world and many of the best ones can be found on the shores of Italy. Many of these beaches have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag Award, which is given to the most eco-friendly beaches and marinas in the world. 147 (141 in 2014) of Italy's beaches have been given this award in recognition of their clean waters and safe bathing areas.
The Blue Flag Award is given to the beaches that offer clean and safe bathing areas. A Blue Flag is only awarded to a beach if it is in complicance with 32 criteria covering the aspects of:
1) Environmental Education and Information
2) Water Quality
3) Environmental Management
4) Safety and Services
Blue Flags are awarded once per season.
